Welcome to Mad Max Gear Australia
Looking for authentic 1980s Australian police-style sirens and Mad Max-inspired equipment? You’re in the right place!
LTS Sirens
The original LockTronic Siren (LTS) units were used in Australian police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines throughout the 1980s, as well as in the Mad Max movies. These were real sirens, not radio communication systems. Now over 40 years old, original units are extremely difficult to find, and working examples can cost more than A$1,000.
That’s why I developed my own compatible LTS-style replica. The siren sounds were recorded directly from an original LTS unit, so they reproduce the authentic sounds of the original. My units feature three siren settings — Wail, Yelp and a combination of both — plus an Intercept button that produces a single rise and fall of the Wail tone. I later added a working PA module, making the microphone fully functional.
Each unit also includes a heavy-duty relay for switching a light bar or rotating beacons on and off, along with a separate switch for a flashing LED that can be mounted on the front bumper.
RVS Movie Radio
The overhead console radio seen in the Mad Max movies was a movie prop, not a working communications radio. It is commonly known as the RVS radio, after the lettering on its front panel, and features flashing lights and movie-style radio chatter. Ross Beckly produces an excellent replica RVS radio, complete with recorded movie radio chatter and flashing lights. I don’t manufacture these myself, but you can order one through me and I’ll source it from Rossco.
Bring a piece of 1980s Australian motoring and Mad Max history to your collection!
